Rob: The joke is achieved by changing one of the words from describing the crisis to a description of what IS in crisis. (Explained in roundabout way to avoid spoiling the joke too much.)
Ha i love when people make jokes that require you to have some world knowledge to understand, it almost makes you feel good for paying attention in chemistry.

Chemistry wouldn’t be much help here. Potential energy is an aspect of physics. PHYSICS. Perhaps you should’ve paid more attention to which class you were in?

Depends really. Because if you really really REALLY want to be picky about it, in higher level chemistry teachings, you do go into the molecular levels and study the energy it takes to break/create certain compounds. I’m sure potential energy might be of use somewhere or there.
